Telmo Rodriguez 2019 Ladeiras Do Xil As Caborcas Valdeorras Tinto
Telmo Rodriguez has become one of Spain’s most exciting wine makers over the past decade. His family owned Remelluri (of which he now makes again) but he stretched his wings early by making wine in different locations. He has become a strong proponent of single vineyard wines and has really worked at identifying vineyards that are worth featuring in a bottle. His project Ladeiras do Xil (meaning the hillsides of the Sil River) began in 2002 and at this point the wines have hit a high point.
As Caborcas is a 2.5 hectare vineyard that faces north and west with a mix of old vines on the steep hillsides. This is vibrant and expressive and practically leaps out of the glass. Elegance and intensity are in perfect balance with this. Bright, tangy red fruits, spice, crushed rock and a long, delicious finish.
