Quinta do Mouro 2017 Vinha do Mouro
Considered by the estate to be in the āclassicsā category, this red wine is a blend of Trincadeira, Aragonez, Alicante Bouschet, and Cabernet Sauvignon. The grapes are hand-harvested and stomped by foot. The wine sees little to no oak and is aged first for 1 year in the tank and then 3 years in the bottle. A nose full of blueberry and cassis with a small overlay of figgy jam fruit gives way to a wonderfully balanced palate with rich, well-integrated red fruit. It is hard to tease apart all of the particulars, but a blend of dark cherry and prunes are in there, which transition on the finish to a warm raisiny fruit compote flavor not unlike a good berry cobbler.
